Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition where your body cannot control its blood glucose levels.  When blood glucose is too high it can cause a number of problems.  Your Dietitian will work with you to help you manage your Diabetes, helping you to get your blood glucose under control and look at all the other aspects of your diet that are important when it comes to diabetes.

Managing my Diabetes

In type 2 Diabetes, your body can no longer control your blood glucose levels.  Your body uses insulin to help to control your blood glucose.  In type 2 diabetes, your insulin stops working as it should and so blood glucose levels can increase.

Your insulin can stop working if you become overweight – especially if you gain weight around your middle.  It can also stop working if you have too little muscle on your body from lack of exercise.  The foods you eat can also put your insulin under pressure when it comes to controlling your blood glucose levels.  Seeing a dietitian will be necessary to help find the right foods to help to control your blood glucose.  They will also talk to you about managing your weight if you are overweight and about building some exercise into your daily life.
